OSMC's August update is ready with a wide range of improvements and fixes to keep your OSMC device running in tip-top shape. Kodi 17.4 has been released with a variety of fixes, and OSMC now ships with this version.

We are continuing to work on migrating OSMC to the latest version of Debian Stretch, which will provide:

  • Better performance
  • A larger number of software packages to choose from
  • More up to date software packages to choose from

Here's what's new in this month's update:

Bug fixes

  • Fix for a possible crash when using ALSA for audio output
  • Fix for a hangup when viewing a PVR recording and pressing Previous or Next
  • Fixes for some audio scraping issues when using Library Mode
  • Fix an issue for users with reverse proxies attempting to forward websockets
  • Fix an issue which prevented Bluetooth from working on Vero 4K
  • Fix a crash where a sad face will be displayed if the OSMC update includes a new version of Kodi and they are using a skin which uses the Skin Shortcuts add-on
  • Fix an issue where TVHeadend may not upgrade from older versions properly
  • Fix an issue preventing 3D autoswitching from working correctly on Vero 4K
  • Fix issues with Shadertoy Screensaver add-ons on other devices
  • Fix connectivity issues with legacy Samba shares; this is now configurable in Kodi settings

Improving the user experience

  • Ensure that skin settings are always saved immediately and not only at shutdown
  • Updated SQLite for improved local library performance
  • Add support for forcing an HDMI video mode on Vero 4K and overriding the TV EDID
  • Work around a user agent based block that some IPTV providers were using to prevent OSMC users from accessing streams
  • Added CI support for TVHeadend
  • Run the Kodi web server on Port 80 by default, making it easier for new users to access
  • Ensure that all languages are enabled by default in Kodi so they can be changed to more easily
  • Various playback improvements for Vero (late 2014)

Miscellaneous

  • Update ffmpeg to 3.1.9
  • Added throttling to music scraping to prevent metadata providers from being overloaded
  • Remove a warning in the recovery console when trying to mount non-existent /boot partition
  • Don't log the SSID password of the WiFi network in the Windows / OS X / Linux installers
  • Add toolchain support for Debian Stretch
  • Add LED trigger support for Vero 4K
  • Disable further updates for Apple TV (end of life)

To get the latest and greatest version of OSMC, simply head to My OSMC -> Updater and check for updates manually on your exising OSMC set up. Of course — if you have updates scheduled automatically you should receive an update notification shortly.
