OSMC's July update is here
We hope you're having a great Summer break. OSMC's July update is ready with a few improvements to keep your device running in tip-top shape. The Vero 4K also sees a large number of improvements, particularly with regards to HDR and 10-bit content. We would like to thank everyone who tested these improvements in our forums and ensured they got included in OSMC quickly.
Debian Stretch (9.0) has now been released and we are preparing OSMC for this. We will have test builds available soon. Debian Stretch will provide:
- Better performance
- A larger number of software packages to choose from
- More up to date software packages to choose from
Here's what's new:
Bug fixes
- Ensure that an appropriate error is displayed when uploading logs that exceed the maximum size allowed by the paste server
- Fix an issue where booting to the recovery console (by holding Shift) on Vero 4K would result in no display
- Fix an issue for Mac OS Sierra (10.12.5 and later) which could prevent the OSMC installer for imaging SD cards properly
- Fix an issue where Samba may prompt users with upgrade questions during the automatic update process
- Fix for signal issues with Astrometa DVB-C R820T tuner on Raspberry Pi
- Fixes for connectivity issues to Samba shares when using Kodi's built-in SMB functionality after Windows 10 updates
- Fix an issue that prevented SSH configuration changes from being included at build time
- Fix a Kodi crash a caused by a scraper returning an empty video tag to Kodi
Improving the user experience
- Improved WiFi stability across a variety of adapters and devices by disabling background scanning
- Added kernel support for CIFS2 on Raspberry Pi
- Updated Raspberry Pi firmware with various upstream fixes
- Updated TVHeadend in App Store to 4.2
- Added support for Realtek 8812AU and 8192CU adapters to Vero 4K for a user
- Improved infrared remote controller support for Vero 4K
- Added 10 -> 8-bit dithering support for 10-bit content on Vero 4K
- Improved HDR support on Vero 4K to ensure that HDR metadata is always passed through
- Improved 4K playback on Vero 4K
Miscellaneous
- Reduce log message noise in the My OSMC updater to make Kodi logs more readable
- Add toolchains for Debian Stretch
- Fetch Raspbian APT key over HTTPS when building for Raspberry Pi 0/1
- Simplify filesystem and toolchain sources generation
Wrap up
To get the latest and greatest version of OSMC, simply head to My OSMC -> Updater and check for updates manually on your exising OSMC set up. Of course — if you have updates scheduled automatically you should receive an update notification shortly.
